Exodus: God’s and Kings’ Film Use 11-Year-Old Boy to Voice God in Upcoming Ridley Scott Bible Epic

This year 2014 has had its fair share of Bible based movies with some receiving exceptional reviews such as ‘Son of God’ and ‘Heaven is for Real’ whereas others like ‘Noah’ and the remake of ‘Left behind’ were condemned for stretching artistic freedom farther than the reality of Bible scriptures. Ridley Scott, though is not deterred by all that, he picked an 11 year old boy to act as God’s thunderous voice for his forthcoming film.

Scott picked young British actor Isaac Andrews to take in the role of God in the film with a budget of 150million dollars. Exodus; God’s and Kings’ shows in theaters Dec 12 and the story of Moses possess significance to Jews, Christians and Muslims. All of these religions are very sensitive with films that touch on their beliefs and have even been known to shun films that go overboard in their depiction of the holy text but Scott is not bothered.

Holy texts don’t offer a particular picture of God, so since time immemorial artists and filmmakers have come up with their own visual depiction. Malak portrays purity and innocence, both are majestically powerful qualities. The boy comes out in two scenes of the film. First, he meets Moses in front of a burning bush and second to give directions and discuss with Moses, who quickly becomes aware that the boy is speaking as God. After hearing of the boy’s part in the film, movie critics appear to warm up and giving it a chance.
